Southwest Shipyard, L.P. Wins Multiple Safety Awards from the Shipbuilders Council of America

February 17, 2017, Houston – Southwest Shipyard, L.P., a leading provider of vessel cleaning, repair, refurbishing and construction services to the marine industry, was awarded multiple safety awards at the Shipbuilders Council of America General Membership Meeting in late January 2017 in Florida. More than 90 shipyard representatives from across the country were in attendance. These safety awards represent SCA member shipyard’s commitment to keeping workers safe on the job. As a side note, the Vice President of Health, Safety, Security & Risk Management, Brian Blanchard, is also a sitting board member on the SCA Health & Safety Committee. Mr. Blanchard is also a Board Member & the Treasurer on the Board of Directors for the Houston Ship Channel Security District, representing the largest area, Zone 1.

Through their proactive approaches and dedication to improved safety and health, these member companies demonstrate their leadership. Southwest Shipyard was awarded both the Award for Excellence in Safety, and an Award for Continuous Improvement in Safety Performance.

Award for Excellence in Safety-
Companies are eligible for this award if they submit the SCA safety surveys each quarter, have no fatalities throughout the year, and have a recordable rate below the SCA average. We are pleased to announce that Southwest Shipyard was awarded the Excellence in Safety Award for 2016.

Continuous Improvement in Safety-
Companies are eligible for this award if they submit the SCA safety surveys each quarter, have no fatalities throughout the year, and reduce their year-on-year TRIR for multiple years running. We are proud to announce that Southwest Shipyard was awarded the Continuous Improvement in Safety award for 2016.
